Declaring that “it’s time for America to sing a new song,” multiple Grammy winner and music superstar Beyoncé is officially announcing her support for Presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Appearing on stage during the Vice President’s rally in Houston, Texas – the “Single Ladies” singer’s hometown – Beyoncé radiates star power as she introduces Harris as “a woman who has been pushing for what this country really needs right now — unity.”
Amid the cheering crowd, the musician continues, “We are at the precipice of an incredible shift — the brink of history. I’m not here as a celebrity. I’m not here as a mother. I’m not here as a politician. I’m here as a mother who cares deeply about the world my children and all of our children live, a world where we have freedom to control our bodies, a world where we are not divided — our past, our present, our future meet us here.”
Beyoncé’s appearance at the notorious swing state is expected to provide a critical boost to Harris’ campaign. Traditionally, Texas is one of rival Republicans’ strongest grounds. The state also has one of the nation’s most restrictive abortion bans, which is what the Harris campaign vehemently fights against. Earlier, the 43-year-old hitmaker had already sanctioned the use of her song “Freedom” as part of the VP’s campaign.
The “Irreplaceable” singer appeared at the rally accompanied by her fellow Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland. Her mother Tina Knowles and actress Jessica Alba were also in attendance. Beyoncé joins a score of A-list celebrities endorsing Harris and Tim Walz’s nomination, which include the likes of Taylor Swift, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lopez and Eminem, among others.
