Avatar: Fire and Ash Crosses $1 Billion Worldwide

Avatar: Fire and Ash has burnished itself in box office history, officially crossing $1 billion at the global box office, Disney and 20th Century Studios confirmed this weekend. The third film in James Cameron’s Avatar saga reached the benchmark faster than most anticipated for a post-pandemic tentpole, underscoring Pandora’s enduring draw and Cameron’s status as one of Hollywood’s most reliable billion-dollar filmmakers.

According to industry trackers, Fire and Ash has amassed more than $1.02 billion worldwide in just six weeks of release, with a robust showing in China, Europe and North America. While the film’s early international strength mirrors the franchise’s historical performance, its continued steadiness in key markets helped push the total comfortably past the billion-dollar threshold — a feat that many high-profile releases this year have failed to achieve.

The latest success also bolsters Cameron’s extraordinary record: Fire and Ash is now the fourth consecutive film directed by Cameron to gross over $1 billion worldwide, a streak that dates back to Titanic (1997) and includes all three Avatar films released to date. Notably, three out of those titles finished their runs at over $2 billion. That places him in decidedly rarefied territory among modern filmmakers, with a consistency that rivals — and in some cases surpasses — even the most bankable directors in franchise cinema.

For context, the Avatar franchise has set some of the highest benchmarks in global box office history. The original Avatar (2009) remains the all-time highest grossing film globally with nearly $2.9 billion in ticket sales, a record it has traded with Avengers: Endgame over the past decade. Its sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), also cleared the billion-dollar mark with more than $2.3 billion worldwide, buoyed by strong international interest and repeat viewings.

While Fire and Ash doesn’t yet rival the astronomical tallies of its predecessors, crossing $1 billion firmly places it among the most successful movies of 2025 and reinforces Cameron’s unique box office resilience.
