Anora Dominates The 97th Oscars with 5 Wins

540views

The 97th Academy Awards finally crowned its winners. Anora, an indie dramedy from director Sean Baker, became the biggest winner of the night, scoring five wins in major categories including Best Picture, Best Actress in a Leading Role for Mikey Madison, and Best Director for Baker. With four wins (as producer, director, writer AND editor), Baker also tied Walt Disney for most wins in a single night by an individual. These triumphs mark a happy ending for the low budget deconstructed fairytale about a sex worker who enters into a whirlwind marriage to a Russian billionaire’s son.

Another big winner of the night was The Brutalist with three trophies for Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Actor for Adrien Brody, his second. Tying in third place with two trophies each are sci-fi adaptation Dune: Part Two, Broadway musical Wicked, and the controversial French drama Emilia Perez.
