Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Reach Divorce Settlement

556views

Eight years after filing for divorce, Angelina Jolie finally reaches a settlement with her ex Brad Pitt. The Mr and Mrs Smith duo split in 2016 citing “irreconcilable differences”. Later, it came to light that the decision was triggered by an incident where the Fight Club actor allegedly assaulted Jolie and two of their children during a private jet flight. A police investigation was launched but Pitt was not charged by the authorities. The actor has denied the allegations.

Since then, the two have been engaged in protracted legal battles over matters including custody of their six children – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox – to the ownership of their joint businesses. Jolie accused her ex-husband of “waging a vindictive war”, while Pitt accused her of seeking to deliberately undermine his businesses. Since 2008, the two co-owned Chateau Miraval, a sprawling 25 million euro French vineyard where they tied the knot in 2014. In 2022, Pitt accused Jolie of selling her stake in the property to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler, owner of the vodka brand Stolichnaya, without his knowledge in order to deliberately damage his wine investment.

Once a beloved power couple known as “Brangelina”, their rocky relationship took an even worse turn when Shiloh, the couple’s daughter, opted to drop Pitt from her name when she turned 18 in May last year. She now goes by Shiloh Jolie.

Finally, on December 30, 2024, the ex couple agreed to sign their divorce settlement. The terms of their deal are kept private.

In a statement, Jolie’s lawyer James Simon stated that the actress is now “focused on finding peace and healing for their family.”

“Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over,” he concluded.
